During this scene, Lady Macduff and her son have a long conversation around the disappearance of Macduff. Midway through this conversation, the murderers walk into the room to kill Macduff but end up killing his son instead. Before the killing, one of the murderers uses a metaphor and says “What, you egg!” to the son. This quote compares Macduffs son to an egg which takes away all of his purpose and meaning.
