Act 1, Scene 7

Metaphors were commonly used during this scene and the one that I have picked to branch out on is when Lady Macbeth says “Was the hope drunk Wherein you dress’d yourself? hath it slept since?
And wakes it now, to look so green and pale.” Lady Macbeth’s statement comes soon after Macbeth says that he will proceed no further in the business of assassinating King Duncan after Duncan has been so nice to him at his castle. Lady Macbeth is shocked by the reaction of Macbeth and chooses to act on it in this manner. When Lady Macbeth states the quote above, she is asking if Macbeth was drunk while making this decision and is asking if he is scared to go through with the killing. She is making him out to be a fool and not be ‘enough of a man’ to go through with it.
