Gattaca paragraph

In the movie Gattaca, directed and written by Andrew Nichol, Jerome’s silver medal is used as a symbol to represent ambition. On the front of the medal, there are two swimmers racing each other. I believe that these two characters are not Jerome and the gold medal winner, but Vincent and Anton. Vincent and Anton earlier in the movie used to be shown swimming in the ocean to show how much more genetically perfect Anton was than Vincent. The medal shows one in front of the other and I believe that this is Vincent in front of Anton. The last race they had as kids was won by Vincent surprisingly and I believe that this was captured and represented on the medal. This was captured on the medal to reiterate the ambition shown on that day by Vincent to become more than just a ‘God child’ or an ‘invalid’. The silver on the medal is used to represent how a genetically perfect person can’t always win even with their massive advantages and how an invalids ambition can be too much to beat even for Jerome and Anton. Showing the medal to Vincent, Jerome expresses his feelings by saying “It’s silver” and “Jerome Morrow was never meant to be one step down on the podium”. These comments are used to show how Jerome thought he was so perfect that he didn’t need to work for anything, but when he finally lost, he found himself with nothing left.
